Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate GST on a price?

Multiply the price before tax by the rate. For ₹1,000 at 18%, GST is ₹180 and the total is ₹1,180. The calculator does this for you and shows the split.

How do I find the GST included in a total amount?

Divide the total by (100 + rate) and multiply by 100 to get the value before tax; the difference is the GST. For ₹1,180 at 18%, the base is ₹1,000 and GST is ₹180.

When do I charge CGST and SGST instead of IGST?

When the seller and the place of supply are in the same state, the tax is split equally into CGST and SGST. For a sale to another state, the whole amount is charged as IGST.

Which GST rate applies to my product or service?

It depends on the HSN or SAC code of what you sell, and rates are revised by the GST Council from time to time. Check the current rate for your item on the CBIC website or with your accountant.

How is the result rounded?

Each tax amount is rounded to the nearest paisa. When you add GST within a state, CGST and SGST are each rounded separately, the way they appear on a tax invoice.
