How does compressing to a target size work?
The tool tries different JPG or WebP quality levels until the file is just under your target. If even a low quality is too big, it reduces the width and height step by step until it fits.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Compression happens inside your browser with the canvas API, so your photos never leave your phone or computer. It even works offline once the page has loaded.
Does compression remove location data?
Yes. The compressed file is re-encoded without EXIF metadata, so GPS location, camera model and date tags are removed, while the photo stays the right way up.
What if my image can’t reach the target size?
For very small targets the tool tells you the smallest size it could reach and the dimensions used. A PNG can only shrink by pixel size, so choose JPG or WebP for much smaller files.
Is there a limit on how many photos I can compress?
There is no daily limit and no watermark. Each file can be up to 100 MB; phones may be slower with very large batches.
